Protect Yourself: Wildfire Smoke Employee Training


Overview

This 45-minute to 1-hour e-learning training is for workers in three states that have regulations to protect employees from the health hazards of wildfire smoke -- California, Washington State and Oregon. The course is also beneficial for employees in other states who may be exposed to wildfire smoke even if their state does not have a regulation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

    • List four things your employer is required to do in the event a wildfire affects the air quality at your workplace.
    • Identify the meaning of the six AQI Color Chart levels.
    • List at least three main components of wildfire smoke.
    • Explain how smoke particles can get into the body.
    • Explain the effects of wildfire smoke on air quality.
    • Recognize three symptoms of acute wildfire smoke exposure.
    • List three chronic illnesses associated with exposure to wildfire smoke.
    • Explain the two conditions that trigger the regulation.
    • List three things to do if you suspect that wildfire smoke is affecting air quality.
    • List three main ways to control exposure to wildfire smoke particles.
    • Select the correct type of respirators you can wear to filter PM2.5.
    • Discuss the difference between voluntary and mandatory respirator use.
    • Exercise your rights to protect yourself from exposure without fear of reprisals.
